Association donates N6m, food, others to Ilorin orphanages

About 100 golfers, including serving and retired military officers and public-spirited Nigerians, have donated about N6 million cash, foodstuff and building materials to two orphanage homes in Kwara State.

The Golf and Tour Association of Nigeria, headed by AVM Clement Aroriode (rtd), were in Ilorin between August 31 and September 3 for their 6th Golf tournament when it toured and discovered “Oju Oluwa to Omo re” vocational and technical school on Eastern Reservoir road, Tanke, and government’s SoS orphanage in Ilorin.

Last week, however, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC,) Dr. Adewale Akingbade, accompanied by a member, Brig-Gen Mohammed Kini (rtd) and Captain of Ilorin Golf Club, Luqman Yahaya, presented N5.8 million cheque to the school’s management, harping on the group’s motto, Golf, Tour and Humanity.

Akingbade told newsmen that the gesture was in fulfilment of the group’s humanitarian obligations, noting: “We have earlier visited the government’s SoS Orphanage, where we donated foodstuff and N100,000 cash. Here we are at a privately-owned “Oju Oluwa to Omo re” in Ilorin with another N5.8m cash donation.’’

‘We merely see this as a divine call. We only pray that other well-placed Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora too would complement it.”

Receiving the gesture, Proprietor of the school, Rev. Samuel Ajayi, in appreciation, explained how the school that started with four pupils now has 85 students with varying physical and mental challenges.
